30 October 2009 - The Russell Protection Society wishes to write in support of a proposal by Ngati Kuta and Patukeha Hapu to close Maunganui Bay to all forms of fishing under s186A of the Fisheries Act 1996 for two years.

We sent this second letter to the Northland Regional Council this morning.
The meeting between FNDC and Russell Executive (RX) took place on December 5th and lasted around 2 hours. TV cameras were in attendance for the whole meeting.
The NRC advised the Far North District Council on Thursday morning that its planned activity to dump district waste at the Russell tip does not comply with the management plan attached to the resource consent for the Russell landfill.
As instructed by the community at the meeting yesterday morning we contacted the
FNDC's Utility Manager Peter Johnson yesterday afternoon.
